Residents have interaction all day long through one-on-one and group activities, including sensory an motor skill exercises, music therapy, and entertainment. We consider our resident’s family members and friends to be part of our family, as well. We encourage loved ones to visit and our staff is readily available for support.
Comforts of Home
Our memory care is designed to feel like home. Spacious rooms are warm and welcoming and decorated with the resident’s favorite things; extra -wide corridors encourage residents to leave their rooms and socialize; comfortable social areas include a fireplace and entertainment center, and meals are served in their home.
Secure Environment
One of the challenges of caring for individuals with Alzheimer’s at home is ensuring their safety. At Solvang Friendship House, we take steps to protect residents from wandering off or becoming injured. Out homes are add designed with secure entrances and exits. Beautifully landscaped outdoor areas are also available for residents’ enjoyment, with save and secure walking paths.
Failure-Free Enrichment Program
All program components are designed to provide “failure-free” stimulation according to the cognitive ability of each resident. Our small homes enable our staff to create individual programs for each resident. We focus on the resident’s wellness and the holistic needs, rather than the losses that the disease causes. Our programming is designed to provide stimulation within ech resident’s capabilities that is “failure-free” and success oriented.
Stay Ahead Training Program
Solvang Friendship House has a specialized training program designed to orient staff to the strategies for the care o Alzhiemr’s disease and related dementia. The dementia resident is not a typical assisted living resident. Specialized communication strategies, validation therapy, redirection and behavior management are needed to insure a high quality of life. Additional specific training is also provided to equip the employees to understand the complexities of aging and the disease progression. Employees are taught to recognize subtle changes in residents’ condition. Employee longevity enables the staff to gain an intimate knowledge of their resident’s personal habits and characteristics, much the same as a mother would recognize a subtle change in their child. This enables them to spot problems quickly as they arise.
